In Great Britain, businessman Graham Bonham-Carter was arrested, who is accused of helping Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska evade US sanctions. This is reported by Ukrinform with reference to the BBC . The British man was arrested on Tuesday on charges of financing real estate purchased by Deripaska. Bonham-Carter is believed to be linked to the Russian oligarch through a number of expensive properties in the US and Britain. It is suspected that all of them ultimately belong to Deripaska. The U.S. Department of Justice said Bonham-Carter was also charged with illegally moving artwork abroad. The department also said that the United States is currently seeking the extradition of the Briton. In total, Bonham-Carter is charged with three criminal offenses: conspiracy to violate and circumvent US sanctions, sanctions violations and wire fraud. Graham Bonham-Carter lives in London and is a third cousin of actress Helena Bonham-Carter. In March, Bonham-Carter’s bank accounts were frozen for six months under orders from Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) after it was alleged that his accounts contained money linked to Deripaska. Each of the orders carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. Deripaska is alleged to have instructed the businessman to set up a company called GBCM Ltd to manage his properties, including two in New York and one in Washington. Long before that, Deripaska worked closely with Paul Manafort, who in 2016 headed Trump’s election campaign in the US elections.
